Email is the fastest way to reach us. We aim to reply within two business days.
You order by choosing a size on this site and paying through our checkout. At checkout you tell us the exact words to stitch, your thread colour, and where to send the finished piece.
After paying you'll be asked to email us a photo of the handwriting you want us to work from. We can't begin without it.
Your order is accepted once your payment has succeeded and we have the handwriting photo. Our turnaround time starts from that second point, not from payment.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card or bank details go directly to Stripe and are never seen or stored by us. Stripe's own terms and privacy policy apply to that part of the transaction.
Every piece is made to order by hand once we have everything we need.
Each piece is stitched individually, so small variations in stitch density, tension and placement are normal and are part of what you're buying. Thread and fabric colours may also look a little different in person than they do on your screen, since no two screens render colour the same way. These variations aren't faults.
We stitch exactly what you give us. Please read your words back carefully before you order — spelling, spacing, punctuation, names, dates.
If something in your submission looks unclear or possibly mistyped, we'll email you to check before we start rather than guess. And if you spot a mistake yourself, tell us straight away — as long as we haven't begun stitching, we'll correct it at no cost.
Once a piece has been stitched we can't remake it free of charge if the error was in the text you supplied. Each one is made by hand for one person and can't be sold to anyone else.
Because every piece is personalised to your specification — your handwriting, your words — it falls under the exception for custom-made goods in Article 6:230p(f) of the Dutch Civil Code, implementing Article 16(c) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive.
That means the usual 14-day cooling-off period for online purchases does not apply to your order. By placing an order you acknowledge this and agree that we may begin making your piece straight away.
We're not going to hold you to something we haven't made yet. Email us as soon as you can. If we haven't begun stitching, we'll cancel your order and refund you in full. Once work has started we can't refund, because the piece can't be sold to anyone else.
None of the above affects your legal rights. Under Dutch law your item must be what was agreed and must last a reasonable time — and if it isn't, you're entitled to a repair, a replacement or your money back.
So if your piece arrives damaged, has a stitching error, is the wrong colour or size, or simply isn't what was described, email hello@lineswekeep.com within 14 days of delivery with a photo. We'll remake it or refund you in full, whichever you'd prefer. Return postage in that situation is on us.
The person responsible for your data is Kira Tegetthoff, trading as The Lines We Keep, at the address in section one. For anything to do with your data, email hello@lineswekeep.com.
We do not build marketing profiles, we do not sell or share your data with anyone for their own purposes, and we will not add you to a mailing list without asking.
Only the services we need to run the shop:
Some of these are based outside the European Economic Area. Where that's the case, transfers are covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, hand it over in a portable form, or object to us using it. Email us and we'll respond within a month. There's no charge.
If you think we've handled your data badly, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the equivalent authority in your own country.
This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics, does no tracking and loads nothing from third-party servers — even our typefaces are hosted here rather than fetched from Google. That's why there's no cookie banner — there's nothing to consent to. If you go through to checkout, that page is Stripe's and Stripe's own cookie and privacy policies apply there.
The handwriting you send us stays yours. By sending it you're giving us permission to use it for one thing: making the piece you ordered.
We sometimes photograph finished work for our website and social media, because it's the best way to show people what we do. We will always ask you first, and a no is a no — it won't affect your order in any way.
The name The Lines We Keep, our logo, and the text and photographs on this site belong to us. Please don't reuse them without asking.
If something has gone wrong, email hello@lineswekeep.com and tell us plainly what happened. We aim to reply within two business days and we'd much rather fix it ourselves than have you take it further.
These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you're a consumer living elsewhere in the European Union, this doesn't take away the mandatory consumer protections you have under the law of your own country.
If we can't resolve something between us, you can contact the consumer authority in your country for help.
